Our Health History...
Dave's Health Inheritance????
In 1968 when I was 25, my dad had three debilitating strokes in one weekend that left him partially paralyzed and unable to work. He was diagnosed with hardening of the arteries (atherosclerosis). My dad’s doctor warned my sister and me that we could expect this disease even earlier than my dad. He was 55.
By the time I was 35, my blood pressure was 140/90, and my cholesterol was well over 200. After trying to reduce my “numbers” with diet and more exercise for three years, I was still not able to improve my results. I then took blood pressure medicine, niacin and then statin drugs. This was 1981, and I’ve been on these medications for 25 years. In 1983, I began running (still run 12 miles a week), and I’ve maintained my weight to stay healthy. The drugs and this routine kept my cholesterol (170) and blood pressure (120/80) “normal”. My internist deemed me fit every year until 2002. At 59, despite my seemingly good health, I began experiencing chest pains while jogging. An arteriogram showed I had practically no blood flow in several main arteries.
OPEN-HEART SURGERY AND FIVE BYPASSES LATER and a very strict diet overhaul, I thought I was set for awhile. My numbers were now cholesterol 121, and blood pressure 118/70. After the surgery, the bad cholesterol, triglycerides and cholesterol ratio were normal.
After my surgery, I realized how important maintaining optimal health really is and, therefore, I have chosen USANA nutritional products to help me maintain my health and continue living a healthy lifestyle. In November 2006 Linda and I chose to join the USANA vision to help people live healthier long lives. And what a company USANA is in only its 17th year! LINDA'S STORY...
On September 15, 2006, I wrote a teary, heartfelt letter to my sponsors, Sandi and Gene Onley. I was desperate, “I got measured at Curves yesterday, and I didn't lose any weight, inches, size. I only lost my mind and my joy. I've got to get my life back. I'm starting to die with me being 100 pounds overweight. I don't like what I'm looking ahead to.”
Now that my husband was doing great on Usana after his open-heart surgery, I got serious and started on the HealthPak 100 plus all the Optimizers that Dr. Strand suggested. I signed up for his Healthy for Life program, thanks to Sandi’s suggestion. I committed myself to exercising at least 30 minutes five days a week, again as Dr. Strand suggested. I ordered all the Usana shakes and bars that I would need to commit myself to the program.
Three months later, my clothes started getting looser and my husband could put his arms around me, touching his hands together again…finally. I had tried every weight loss program out there, including spending over $1,200 at another one just a year before. After three months of following that program, I went in and told them that I’d been following their program, but it just wasn’t working for me. I had only lost about four pounds in three months!
I was moving in the right direction! My doctor was so stunned when she walked into the room that her mouth literally hung open. She said that my entire body had changed…in only three months! Three months after that, my weight had dropped another seven pounds, for a total of 25 pounds. (The typical weight loss for USANA's 5-Day Reset is 4 1/2 - 5 pounds)
And, lastly, at church last Sunday, two women came up to me, said I looked terrific and wanted to know what I had done…
P. S. As of June 15, 2007, I am now down 35 pounds!
P.P.S. As of September 17, 2007, my weight continues to drop.
